The item analysis of the Common Formative Assessment is a powerful tool for the PLC team. Each team member should bring a summary item analysis for his/her students along with three to four student test samples to the collaborative meeting. A good item analysis should answer the following: (1) Are there essential skills that our textbook and adopted curriculum did not adequately cover? (2) What are the skills that need to be retaught using a different instructional methodology? (3) Was there a common, incorrect student response to one or more questions? (4) As an individual teacher, what can I learn from other team members who may have experienced greater instructional success on a tested concept? (5) Are there common skills/concepts that should be retested in an upcoming formative assessment?
