Rutherford County School Nutrition Mission Statement
We strive to support learning by providing healthy meals
and promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition.

Rutherford County Schools currently has 41 School Nutrition Managers and over 325 school nutrition professionals, serving breakfast and lunch on a daily basis to each of our 45 schools in Rutherford County. All meals provided by Rutherford County Schools must meet the Recommended Daily Allowance established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Rutherford County School Nutrition is an active participant in the National School Lunch and National School Breakfast Programs. These are federally assisted child feeding programs sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that provide free or reduced meals to our students whose families meet the criteria.

The School Nutrition Program operates fiscally independent with the District, paying for all direct expenses and administrative costs. We are supported by revenue generated from sales made within our cafeteria as well as receiving federal and state funds based on our meal participation. This department does not receive any local tax dollars.

The Rutherford County School Nutrition Department considers food safety a huge priority. Our employees are trained to make sure all HACCP procedures are followed. The Rutherford County Health Department also conducts two inspections each year at each school. Along with the health inspections, we also conduct health and safety inspections of our own throughout the year.

As a partner in education, the Rutherford County School Nutrition Program contributes to a successful academic experience and encourages a lifetime of healthy eating by providing each student with the affordable opportunity to enjoy meals that are nutritious, appealing, and served by caring professionals in a pleasant environment.

We look forward to serving your children and invite you to visit your child’s cafeteria during the school year.
